Following last year’s exhibition Blomster i hänryckningens tid (Flowers in the Time of Rapture), Johan Munter returns to Skansen and Skogaholm Manor with the floral sequel Sömmar och stjälkar (Seams and Stems). This time, we are invited into a shared world of flora and fashion, as handpicked garments and accessories from Skansen’s textile collection are paired with seasonal floral arrangements. Together, flowers and clothing form a living interpretation of humanity’s age-old desire to adorn both body and surroundings for everyday life, celebration, and the many stages of existence.
Drawing inspiration from color, form, material, and pattern, Johan Munter interprets garments and accessories from three centuries – spanning men’s and women’s fashion – many of which are being shown to the public for the very first time. With the 18th-century manor as a backdrop, the result is a poetic experience where each room becomes a stage, and every ensemble of fabric and flower tells its own story.
Here, opulent, imaginative, and blooming installations stand side by side with garments dating from the 1770s to the 1940s. Welcome to experience fashion history from new perspectives and one of Sweden’s most innovative florists in a creative dialogue with the seasons and the rich heritage of textile art.
