Experience traditional craftsmanship up close as our master blacksmith demonstrates how an axe is made – from red hot iron to finished tool – in just one hour. Assisting the blacksmith is a striker, showcasing a historical, pre-industrial method of forging iron before the power hammer became common.
The axe being forged is a classic small forest axe, typical of the 19th century. It is crafted using historical techniques, with a soft iron body and a steel edge – a method that conserved the precious steel of the time.
In addition to witnessing the forging process, you’ll also hear stories about the craft of blacksmithing and its rich history.
