Tottie residence

The Tottie residence represents a wealthy merchant’s 18th century town residence. The house features unique original furnishings.

  • Only parts of the original building have been re-erected at Skansen and the house is situated in the Town Quarter where it represents a rich merchant’s city home.

Several of the rooms still contain the original furniture. From the yard entrance we come straight in to the dining room which is panelled in sweet-smelling cedar. The Tottie family imported the wood from the West Indies. The drawing room is panelled in Cuban mahogany.

The ground floor also houses a bedchamber and a small picture gallery. The upper floor is the piano nobile with the grand drawing room with a parquet floor and wall paintings depicting Roman ruins. On this floor there is also a whole set of newly decorated rooms.
