Lucia at Skansen
-
The story of Lucia began in Sicily around the year 283. Since then, old pagan traditions have been combined with Swedish customs, giving rise to new traditions.
Skansen has played a key role in spreading the Lucia tradition. The first picture of a Lucia here at Skansen dates from 1896, and shows Kerstin Olsdotter from Mora. She wears a white blouse, a white skirt and a red belt around her waist. The top of her head is covered by a lingonberry sprig crown of candles.
